Optimaly is built local-first. The short version: your conversations stay on
your device, we run no servers, and we collect no data.
What stays on your device
Conversations and settings are stored in a local database on your Mac.
They are never sent to us — we have no server to send them to.
API keys and your license key are stored in the macOS Keychain, never in
files or logs.
Local AI models run entirely on your device. Prompts routed to a local
model never leave your Mac. Messages the app detects as sensitive are forced
to local processing.
License verification is offline. Your license key is checked
cryptographically on your device; no activation server is contacted.
What we collect
Nothing. Optimaly has no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no
user accounts. We cannot see your conversations, your keys, or your usage.
Network connections the app makes
The app only talks to services you can see and control:
Cloud AI providers you configure (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, or
a custom endpoint): when a request is routed to the cloud, the relevant
conversation content is sent to that provider using your own API key,
under that provider's privacy policy. Enable "private mode" to keep
everything local.
Model catalog: pricing/capability metadata is fetched from OpenRouter
without any key or personal data.
Web search (optional, off by default): your search queries are sent to
the provider you configured (e.g. Brave, Tavily) with your key.
Model downloads: model files are fetched from Hugging Face.
Software updates: the app checks GitHub Releases for new versions. Like
any web request, this exposes your IP address to GitHub.
Key verification: when you save a provider API key in Settings, the app
makes one test request to that provider to confirm the key works.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by our merchant of record (payment processor). They
process your payment details under their own privacy policy; we receive the
information needed to issue your license (such as your email address) and use
it only for that purpose and for support.
Your data, your control
Everything the app stores can be deleted by you: remove the app's data folder
and the Keychain entries, or simply delete the app. There is no copy anywhere
else.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version ships with the app and is
published at optimaly.app.
